Koliai Kurds are known as good carpet fighters. The carpets are tightly knotted with high pile and a saturated colour range. Older Koliai rugs are knotted on wool warps, while younger ones have cotton warps, both with two wefts between the rows of knots. Their designs usually feature large, geometric shapes in muted colours. A pattern of small diagonally placed squares is also common. The design is strong; the carpets are heavy and compact and have good wear resistance. The classic dimensions are 150-160×300-330 cm, i.e. narrow carpets in relation to their length.
